Childhood Obesity

Childhood Obesity Facts

Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years.
The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% over the same period.
In 2008, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese.
Overweight is defined as having excess body weight for a particular height from fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these factors. Obesity is defined as having excess body fat.
Overweight and obesity are the result of “caloric imbalance”—too few calories expended for the amount of calories consumed—and are affected by various genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors

Obesity and Its IMPACT on Society

IEconomic Impact

In addition to its health impacts, obesity leads to many problems including disadvantages in employment and increased business costs. These effects are felt by all levels of society from individuals, to corporations, to governments.
Obesity can lead to social stigmatization and disadvantages in employment. When compared to their normal weight counterparts, obese workers on average have higher rates of absenteeism from work and take more disability leave, thus increasing costs for employers and decreasing productivity. A study examining Duke University employees found that people with a BMI over 40 filed twice as many workers' compensation claims as those whose BMI was 18.5–24.9. They also had more than 12 times as many lost work days. The most common injuries in this group were due to falls and lifting, thus affecting the lower extremities, wrists or hands, and backs. The US state of Alabama Employees' Insurance Board approved a controversial plan to charge obese workers $25 per month if they do not take measures to reduce their weight and improve their health. These measures started in January 2010 and apply to those with a BMI of greater than 35 kg/m2 who fail to make improvements in their health after one year.
Some research shows that obese people are less likely to be hired for a job and are less likely to be promoted. Obese people are also paid less than their non-obese counterparts for an equivalent job. Obese women on average make 6% less and obese men make 3% less.
Specific industries, such as the airline and food industries, have special concerns. Due to rising rates of obesity, airlines face higher fuel costs and pressures to increase seating width. In 2000, the extra weight of obese passengers cost airlines US$275 million. Costs for restaurants are increased by litigation accusing them of causing obesity. In 2005 the US Congress discussed legislation to prevent civil law suits against the food industry in relation to obesity; however, it did not become law

Psychological Effects

Very overweight and obese people have reduced psychological health. Their self-esteem and social interaction may be impaired, they may have a poor body image and anxiety and depression.

Many studies show that depression is especially present in females who are obese and that there is more depression present in those who are obese than persons of normal weight. Studies have also shown that binge eating is common amongst severely obese adolescents and is related to high levels of anxiety and depression, as well as to low levels of self-esteem and body attitude

YOG & MEDITATION

YOG is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline, originating in ancient India. The goal of yoga, or of the person practicing yoga, is the attainment of a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility. The word is associated with meditative practices in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism.

The Eightfold Path of Yoga :

Yama (moral conduct): noninjury to others, truthfulness, nonstealing, continence, and noncovetousness

Niyama (religious observances): purity of body and mind, contentment in all circumstances, self-discipline, self-study (contemplation), and devotion to God and guru

Asana: right posture

Pranayama: control of prana, the subtle life currents in the body

Pratyahara: interiorization through withdrawal of the senses from external objects

Dharana: focused concentration; holding the mind to one thought or object

Dhyana: meditation, absorption in the vast perception of God in one of His infinite aspects — Bliss, Peace, Cosmic Light, Cosmic Sound, Love, Wisdom, etc. — all-pervading throughout the whole universe

Samadhi: superconscious experience of the oneness of the individualized soul with Cosmic Spirit

Meditation is a single lesson of awareness, of no-thought, of spontaneity, of being total in your action, alert, aware. It is not a technique, it is a knack. Either you get it or you don't.

UNIVERSAL LOVE

HEALTHY UNIVERSE

OBESE EARTH

Our planet is growing – and so are we. The reason they are giving for the world ending, is that humans will become so obese that their weight will pull the Earth into the moon and the entire universe will explode.

There are many different bodies orbiting the Sun in our Solar System. Scientists have come up with many ways to classify them. One common division is
terrestrial bodies like the Earth
Terrestrial bodies are simply those with solid surfaces on which one could stand. The Earth is a nice terrestrial planet. The usual order in which one presents the planets is by their distance from the Sun: Mercury, Venus(SEMEN In Sanskrit), Earth, Mars.

(Earth,Venus,Murcury)
EARTH (PRITHVI) : (Sanskrit: पृथ्वी pṛthvī, also पृथिवी pṛthivī) is the sanskrit name for earth and its essence Prithivi Tattwa, in the form of a mother goddess or godmother. Prithvi is also called Dhra, Dharti, Dhrithri, meaning that which holds everything. As Prithvi Devi, she is one of two wives of Lord Vishnu. His other wife is Lakshmi. Prithvi is another form of Laxmi. Another name for Her is Bhumi or Bhudevi or Bhuma Devi.
As Prithvi Mata "Mother Earth" she contrasts with Dyaus Pita "father sky". In the Rigveda, Earth and Sky are frequently addressed in the dual, probably indicating the idea of two complementary half-shells. She is the wife of Dyaus Pita ('father Dyaus'). (The widespread belief that these two were originally a single deity appears to be mistaken. See Dyavaprthivi). She is the mother of Indra and Agni. According to a tradition, when Indra killed Dyaus Pita, she applauded and married him. She is associated with the cow. Prithu, an incarnation of Vishnu, milked her in the cow's form to get food from her. She is a national personification in Indonesia, where she is known as Ibu Pertiwi ('Mother Earth').

VENUS : An Embodiment of LOVE, he is a benefic planet and governs the refined attributes, romance, beauty, sensuality, passion, comforts, luxuries, jewelry, wealth, art, music, dance, season of spring, rains, Bed room.

HUMAN

The world is getting bigger. Larger waistlines are on the increase. We look at why putting on weight has become a problem around the world.

Which country has the most fat people as a percentage of the population?

The U.S. is the fatest country in the world, followed by Mexico, U.K., Slovakia, and Greece. Here is how the U.S. ranks compared to the top five fattest countries in the world:

1. America: 74.1% of people are overweight and 30% of those are obese.
2. Mexico: 68.1% of people are overweight and 24% of those are obese.
3. U.K.: 63.8% of people are overweight, and 23% of those are obese.
4. Slovakia: 56.3% of people are overweight, and 22.4% of those are obese.
5. Greece: 68.5% of people are overweight, and 22% of those are obese.

Obesity is costly, not only to the people who suffer from it, but to the nation as a whole. It is estimated that a total of $117,000,000,000.00 ($117 billion) in medical expenses result when the cost of all the diseases caused by obesity are combined. Productivity is also reduced, costing the business world approximately $3.9 billion dollars. This figure includes the cost to the workplace of Type 2 diabetes ($98 million) and heart disease ($8.8 million).

Impotence

Impotence : powerlessness: the quality of lacking strength or power; being weak and feeble

What is Impotence: Sometimes called " Erectile dysfunction (ED)", is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. ED is treatable at any age, and men have been seeking help and returning to normal sexual activity because of improved, successful treatments.

Difficulty in the bedroom can be caused by a number of psychological problems such as stress, and doctors believe that physical situations, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, atherosclerosis  and actual physical injury of the penis make up at least 70% of Impotence cases.

Lifestyle choices, such as the frequent use of tobacco and alcohol products, as well as a slothful exercise regiment, can add to the proclivity and severity of Impotence (erectile dysfunction).

Exploring Other Impotence Cures

The media attention given to Viagra and erectile dysfunction is helping it edge over other impotence cures such as vacuum devices, suppositories, and self-injected erectile drugs. Other cures range from the non-invasive, like Viagra as a by-mouth pill, to the extraordinarily invasive, such as penile implants and reconstructive surgery for the veins and arteries preventing the penis from achieving enough firmness to initiate sexual intercourse.

Impotence Linked to Smoking : New reserch

Dr. Jiang He, the lead researcher, says most people know smoking causes cancer and cardiovascular disease. But very few people know smoking is also harmful for the sex life, He adds. Hopefully, our study will remind people smoking is not only bad for the heart and lungs, but also bad for your sex life.

Revealed: Oral sex is ‘bigger cause of throat cancer than tobacco

Treatments for impotence

Treatment depends on the underlying cause. The first step is to talk to someone who understands the problem. They will help to check for physical causes, advise on treatments and refer you on to a suitable therapist if appropriate. It may also help to talk to your partner about the problem, and sexual counselling may be an option.

In the past decade oral new medicines (tablets) that help a man to achieve an erection have radically improved the treatment of ED. These drugs work for the majority of men affected, whatever the cause.

But they don’t help or suit everyone and can cause important side effects. So other treatments still have a place – these include mechanical aids such as vacuum pumps or penile implants, and medicines such as intra-urethral pellet therapy and injections into the penis. Your doctor should be able to help you find a treatment that will work for you.

To reduce your risk of ED, avoid smoking and excessive alcohol, eat healthily, take regular exercise, and make sure you relax and get plenty of rest.

Stress & Obesity

Everyday stress can cause metabolic changes that, in the long run, contribute to obesity

according to a recent study by the departments of psychiatry and biomedical engineering at the

University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Science has long documented that during extreme stress, such as in the experience of war or traumatic grief, victims tend to decrease their food intake, resulting in lower body weight. Recent studies, however, suggest that everyday social stress—tests, public speaking, job and relationship pressures—may have the opposite effect, resulting in overeating and weight gain. With obesity on the rise, scientists have increasingly focused on the causes and effects of weight gain, including the contributions of stress.

Stress
Stress plays a major role in Obesity.  Emotions and environment stress affects a person's overeating pattern significantly.

Emotional status generally plays upon the mind of the consumer of the food while he/she is eating something. When people are not in an emotional stable position due to some stress they tend to fall back to over eating.

It is seen that overeating is considered to be a means of diminishing anxiety, relieving frustration and deprivation, sedating oneself, diminishing guilt and handling anxiety. Theorists Rakoff and Garetz describe overeating as a means of coping with emotions such as anxiety, anger, despair, and depression all of which are associated with stress.

Children and adults alike who are obese or overweight are more likely to feel stress, and overweight children are more likely to report that their parents were often or always stressed over the past month. Children, regardless of weight or age, say they can tell that their parents are stressed when they argue and complain, which many children say makes them feel sad and worried. Parents, however, are not fully realizing the impact their own stress is having on their children

Scientists led by Randall Sakai, PhD, professor in UC’s psychiatry department, and Susan Melhorn, of UC’s neuroscience graduate program, found that stressful experiences can lead to recovery periods marked by overeating and larger, less frequent meals—a pattern that has been linked to weight gain.
